Twenty-six, not thirty. I could have padded it to thirty with cleaning agencies I never managed to open, and I would rather tell you where the well actually ran dry. Every one of the twenty-six below opens on the advert I read. Total across five pages: 144.
Why twenty-six and not thirty. The categories you asked for — gyms and pools, cinemas, farm shops, the stadium — largely came back empty: every lifeguard advert wants an NPLQ, the cinemas had nothing posted, the farm shops wanted horticultural experience, and Reading FC is not advertising matchday staff. What did work was pharmacies, opticians, forecourts, dry cleaners and bike delivery. To reach thirty I would have had to list four cleaning-agency adverts whose ids Indeed hides, meaning I could not read them. That is padding, so they are not here.
The reason there probably should not be a round six.
All twenty-six open directly on the advert. No search links this time. Distances from Reading centre.
BP Retail (Wild Bean Cafe), Bracknell RG42 1NB
Five rounds and 144 jobs, and this is the only advert that says it in exactly those words:
"Applicants welcome from 16+"
Forecourt shop and Wild Bean Cafe: serving food and drink, till work, cleaning the store. "You will be provided with online and on the job training." Not an inferred pay band, not a policy on a careers page — a sentence written into the advert inviting you specifically. Apply to this first.
Domino's, 64 Christchurch Road, Reading RG2 7AZ
Push bike, not moped, so no licence and no CBT. The advert prices it "per hour (dependent on age) plus tips", and an £8.00 floor is the under-18 minimum wage almost exactly. They supply the bike box; you supply the bicycle. Christchurch Road is a fifteen minute ride from you, evenings and weekends, and tips are on top. Deliveries after 10pm are not legal at 16, so agree the shift end time up front.
The Perfume Shop, Camberley
An £8.81 floor is a youth rate, and a four hour contract is the smallest commitment on any of the five pages: one short shift a week, permanent, with more hours available when they need cover. No age or experience requirement stated anywhere. Camberley is the only thing wrong with it.
Brewers Decorator Centres, Reading RG30 4BJ (Tilehurst)
Sixteen permanent hours across two days, one of which is Saturday, in Tilehurst. "Previous retail experience or product knowledge would be advantageous but not essential, as full training will be given to the right candidate." A paint and decorating supplier is a quieter shop floor than a fashion store, which suits a first job.
The good brothers, 183 Wokingham Road, Reading RG6 1LT
An independent cafe on the Wokingham Road, permanent part time, weekends. "Previous barista experience or familiarity with coffee preparation is preferred but NOT essential; training will be provided for the right candidate." Their capitals, not mine. Your Pavilion Cafe placement makes you a better-than-average applicant here, which is not true of most jobs on these pages.
ASDA, Windsor Road, Maidenhead SL6 1UZ
The third separate Asda store across these pages, all eight-hour permanent food services contracts at £13.10. Three stores, three managers. If you are applying to Asda at all, apply to all three: Reading Road, Shoppenhangers and Windsor Road.
Tenpin, 8 The Atrium, Camberley GU15 3GP
A £10.85 floor at a bowling alley, no age or experience requirement stated at all, and "fully flexible around working pattern (weekends will be required)". Worth knowing that the same Tenpin is separately advertising a "Customer Service Assistant Over 18" — they put the age limit in the job title. The cleaning role carries no such line, which tells you where their boundary sits.
Berks & Bucks Football Association, Cantley, Wokingham RG40 5QG
The county FA's own facility. "Hours: To be discussed based on shift and individual availability", no DBS mentioned, no minimum age, and the only listed education requirement is "GCSE or equivalent (preferred)" — which you have, brand new. Leisure experience is preferred but not required. This is the one football-adjacent job in two rounds that does not demand 18, a car or a coaching badge.
Day Lewis Pharmacy, Woodley, Reading RG5 4UX
"Previous pharmacy experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided for the right candidate." Pharmacy is a genuinely good first job: it comes with a recognised qualification route and it reads well on a CV forever. Thirty hours is a lot alongside college, so this is the one to take if you are not continuing in education, or worth asking whether they will split the contract.
FatFace, Reading
"Team Lead" would normally put this in Tier C, except the advert explicitly invites people who do not match: "If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly, we encourage you to apply — you might be just the right fit." No minimum age, no years-of-experience threshold. In Reading. Worth one form on the strength of that sentence alone.
The White Company, Henley-on-Thames RG9 2AN
No age requirement, no experience requirement, nothing stated at all beyond the role. Christmas seasonal hiring in retail has the lowest bar of the year and it is starting now, so this is the right week for it. Henley is a direct train.
Morrisons, off Basingstoke Road, Reading RG2 0HB
The Reading Morrisons, and it carries the same line as the Wokingham and Bracknell stores on round three: "We will only recruit individuals who are over the school leaver's age." Butchery is a trained role, so it is a longer shot than shelf-filling, but Morrisons trains its Market Street counters from scratch and this is the one in Reading itself.
Binfield Village Pharmacy, Bracknell RG42 5JG
The best hourly rate on this page, in an independent village pharmacy, part time and permanent. No minimum age stated, and dispensing experience is preferred rather than required. Independent pharmacies are small teams, which means one manager decides and a phone call or a visit will outperform an online form.
Vets for Pets, inside Pets at Home, Brunel Retail Park, Reading RG2 0HS
In Reading, 25 hours across three shifts plus one Saturday in four. "Previous experience in a customer facing role is essential" — and your Pavilion Cafe work is exactly that, so you meet it. Two of the three shifts are 9.5 hours long, which is a full day and hard to fit round a timetable.
Specsavers, Reading
Town centre, permanent part time, and optics is a career ladder rather than a shop job. Experience in a fast-paced customer service environment is listed as desirable, and optical experience more so, but neither is stated as essential. Specsavers stores are individually franchised, so the Reading manager decides.
High Score Arcades, Farnborough GU14 7SL
The second site of the arcade from round four, same "depending on age and experience" wording and the same £9.40 youth floor. Farnborough is seventeen miles and this one asks for a year of customer service as preferred. Apply to the Bracknell one first; use this as the follow-up.
Aramark, Farnborough GU14
Contract catering, twenty permanent hours, and "previous catering experience desirable but training will be provided". Seventeen miles, and Aramark sites are often inside a school or a military base, either of which brings a clearance requirement. Establish the site before you apply.
KOOSA Kids, The Heights, Caversham RG4 7LB
The four-day version of the Caversham role, so a lighter week than the Monday to Friday one. "Full training and inductions will be provided." Two things against it: the enhanced DBS takes weeks, and they say the role "would suit somebody with experience of working in a Primary School, Pre-School or Nursery". Close to home, though.
Reading Borough Council, Bridge Street, Reading
A permanent council job in the town centre, three days a week, working with museum collections and databases. It is by a distance the most interesting job on any of the five pages and the best thing you could put on a CV. It wants "some training or experience" in museums and heritage and "confidence with IT including experience of databases" — the second half of that you can genuinely claim. A long shot, worth the hour it takes.
Fornoza, Wokingham RG40 4RF
Part time is offered on request alongside full time and zero hours, so the shape is negotiable. What they want is "a good attitude and someone who's genuinely happy to learn. Reliable, punctual, works well under pressure." It also asks for "solid experience" in the same advert, which contradicts the rest of it, so this is worth a message rather than a long application.
The Works, Bracknell RG12 1BE
Eighteen part-time hours at a books and stationery chain that hires young across its shop floors. No minimum age stated. "Experience in a supervisory or team leadership role" is listed as a desired skill, which you do not have, so this is a stretch. Included because The Works also hires plain sales assistants constantly, and an application puts you on their list.
Domino's, 62 Peach Street, Wokingham RG40
Better paid than the bicycle version and "previous experience is a bonus, but not essential as we'll give you all the training you need". The advert never mentions it, but a moped needs a provisional licence and a CBT course, which costs around £150 and takes a day. Legal at 16, but it is money up front, so only worth it if you would use the CBT anyway.
Places for People, Reading RG6
£20.58 an hour, in Reading, on zero hours so you pick your sessions. You need the Swim England Level 2 teaching qualification, which you do not have — but the Level 1 can be started at 16 and the Level 2 at 17. Listed as the thing to work towards rather than to apply for, because it pays 60 percent more than anything else on these pages.
Rush by Airhop, High Wycombe HP12 3TA
A trampoline park with a straight under-18 pay floor and evening and weekend hours. It asks for "a minimum of 1 years' experience within a customer service role", and High Wycombe is eighteen miles. Both are real. The pay band still says they hire your age.
RAFAKidz, RAF Benson, Wallingford OX10 6AA
Fifteen evening hours at £13.21, and "whilst previous experience would be desirable, it is not essential." An enhanced DBS is required on appointment, and RAF Benson is fifteen miles with no useful public transport. Two of them are hiring, which is the only reason it is here.
RAFAKidz, Odiham, Hook RG29 1QH
The same employer's Odiham site, same rate, same DBS. Eighteen miles. Last on the page for exactly that reason, and listed only so the sweep is complete.
Including two that would have been Tier A if I had trusted the search card instead of opening the advert.
| Job | Blocked by | The line that did it |
|---|---|---|
| Johnson's Dry Cleaners, "Bracknell" | licence | Actually Ascot, and "a full driver's license and mode of transport are mandatory". The Reading branch on round three has neither. |
| SBFM cleaner, third listing | wrong country | Site address is Crossford Sandyholm ML8 5QF — Lanarkshire, Scotland. Indeed served it under a Reading search. |
| Kings Cattery, Bracknell | licence | "Hold a full UK driving license with your own transport" |
| Rushmoor Royals, lifeguard | qualification | "The successful application must be NPLQ qualified" |
| Castle Royle, lifeguard | full time | Full time, plus "CPR, First Aid, or AED certified" |
| Pawesome Memories, dog walker | licence | "Drivers Licence (required)" and "Professional Pet Sitting or Dog Walking: 1 year (required)" |
| Tenpin, customer service assistant | age | The job title is literally "Customer Service Assistant Over 18" |
| Sip and Spoke Cafes | full time | Full time only, and "you'll need some barista experience" |
| Monkey Mates, Wokingham soft play | full time | Full time only |
| uSports / Kixx / Lions, coaching | age, car | Covered on round four: 18+, two years' experience, or a vehicle |
| Great Grottos & Dobbies, Father Christmas | obvious | £17–£20/hr and no experience needed, but not at sixteen |
| DCK Group, festive merchandiser | transport | Own vehicle and full driving licence |
| Cook Trading, Christmas casual Henley | driving | Driver role |
| Encon / Goldcrest / RAPID, school cleaners | DBS | Enhanced DBS stated in the job titles themselves |
| Legoland and Windsor attractions | nothing posted | Merlin is only advertising team leads, managers and chefs right now. Check again in February for the season. |
The categories you named, honestly assessed. Gyms and pools: closed, every lifeguard advert requires an NPLQ and every swimming teacher a Level 2. Cinemas: nothing advertised in fifteen miles. Farm shops and garden centres: wanted horticultural qualifications, except the Hillier job already on round four. Reading FC: not advertising matchday staff. What paid off instead was pharmacies, opticians, petrol forecourts and bicycle delivery — four categories I had not thought of until the ones you named came back empty.
Two qualifications worth more than any job on this page. The Swim England Level 1 can be started at 16 and leads to a £20.58 an hour job three miles from you. The FA Introduction to Coaching Football is paid for by Kingdom Heritage Academy in Bracknell, who want 17 and up. Both turn a wall into a door within a year, and both are worth more than another thirty applications.
On round six. Five rounds have produced 144 jobs. This round took 33 searches to find 26, against round four's 26 searches for 30 and round three's 20 for 30. The rate is falling because the underlying stock is finite, not because the searching got worse. If nothing on 144 jobs produces an interview, the problem has moved from supply to application, and the fix is walking into the Oracle with printed CVs rather than a sixth page.
"Applicants welcome from 16+" and "£8.00-£12.71 (dependent on age)". The two most explicit invitations across 144 jobs.
All within three miles, all part time, all saying training provided. Three forms, one evening.
The White Company Henley, Lush at the Oracle on round three, Flying Tiger on round four. Seasonal hiring has the lowest bar of the year and it is happening now.
144 jobs. Round three has the clearest evidence, round four the best shift patterns, round two the tutoring. This one has the two most explicit adverts.
