Thirty more vacancies, none of them on the first list. No warehouse work, nothing full time, nothing that wants money off you. Plus the tutoring question answered properly: there is exactly one advertised tutoring job in this area a sixteen-year-old can apply for, and it is open.
Your three rules are now hard filters in the code, not judgement calls. Anything flagged full time is dropped before its description is even fetched, which is what killed all eight warehouse jobs from last time on its own: every warehouse vacancy in this area is full time. Warehouse, picking and packing are also blocked by title and by description. Course-sellers, commission-only, work-from-home and franchise adverts are blocked the same way. Every Indeed link below was opened one at a time and confirmed live; three fabricated job ids were caught and thrown away.
The filters that were not there in round one.
Ranked on whether they would actually hire you, not on advert quality. Distances are from Reading centre. Where an employer publishes a pay range starting near £8 to £9, that is the under-18 minimum wage band, which means they are budgeting for someone your age.
Superdry, Reading RG1 2AG
The best new find. Town centre, and the advert states the reason for that pay range outright: "pay varies in line with age related wages". No experience is asked for anywhere in it. Apply to this one first.
Johnsons The Cleaners (Timpson Group), Reading, Shepherds Hill
Sixteen hours across two days, which is the single most college-compatible pattern on this page. Timpson Group is well known for hiring on personality rather than CV, and the advert says so: "Lack of experience is not an issue for us, as every single colleague is given in-depth training from their very first day."
H. Samuel, The Oracle, Reading RG1 2AQ
In the Oracle, permanent part time, and the requirement is written as an interest rather than a history: "While you may not specifically have jewellery experience, you will certainly have an interest in jewellery products and brands."
Deichmann, Reading RG1 2AF
Eight hours a week in the town centre, permanent. No experience requirement stated at all; they ask for "energy, drive and passion". The commission is non-contractual and on top, not instead of, the hourly rate.
New Look, Reading
The Reading store, not the Bracknell one from round one. "Previous experience in retail is desirable but not essential." New Look hires at 16 in most stores. Not publishing the pay is the only thing holding this off the top three.
F.Hinds, Reading
Another youth pay floor at the bottom of the range. Fixed shifts: Wed 1–5:30, Thu 9:30–2, Fri 1–5:30, Sat 9:30–5:30. Check those weekday afternoons against your timetable before applying, because they are not negotiable on a maternity cover. Sales experience is listed as a skill but not as a requirement.
Nando's, 29 Market Place, Wokingham RG40 1AP
Three things in one advert: "no previous experience is required, just show us that you're brimming with passion and willing to learn", "you can only become a Nando's Team Member once you've finished school", and a note that pay "may differ for under 18s". You have finished school, and the under-18 line is proof they take people your age. Direct train to Wokingham.
McMullen & Sons, Wokingham
Same chain as the Marlow pub in round one, but Wokingham instead of Marlow, which fixes the transport problem. McMullen publishes a separate under-18 band, which is why the range starts at £9. Ask what time the shift ends and whether you would be waiting rather than serving behind the bar.
Halfords, Unit 17 Western Centre, Bracknell
The Bracknell store, separate from the Reading one on round one, so a separate manager and a separate application. Halfords publishes its bands in the advert: "Age 21+ £13.14 per hour, Under 21 £11.28 per hour." They do ask for customer service experience "ideally", which is soft.
TK Maxx, Bracknell RG12 1BE
The clearest no-experience wording found anywhere in this run: "No experience? No problem! We'll provide all the training you need." TK Maxx is running the same advert at three sites near you, and each is a separate hiring manager, so apply to Bracknell, Maidenhead and Camberley as three applications rather than one.
Travelodge, Bracknell
Travelodge is a known quantity now, because the Reading housekeeping role in round one was the same employer and the same wording: "no experience required for this role, we can coach and teach you everything you need to know." Bracknell is the nearest of their four current part-time openings.
SASSE, Three Mile Cross, Reading RG2 8FT
Ten hours a week at a good rate, close to home, and no experience wanted beyond "a willingness to learn and follow Health & Safety procedures". The catch is a police level 2 clearance, which the company pays for but which takes weeks, so this is not fast money.
The Thirsty Bear, 110 Kings Road, Reading RG1 3BY
Walking distance, and "previous experience in hospitality or restaurant settings is preferred but not mandatory; enthusiasm and willingness to learn are key". Serving alcohol unsupervised is 18+, so go in asking for the waiting and food side. Independents decide that in a two-minute conversation, which is an advantage.
Pearls Bubble Tea, Reading RG6 6EH
A youth pay floor, part time, and it is in Earley rather than the town centre so it will get fewer applicants. It asks for a year of customer service and a year of food prep, but both are marked "(preferred)", and your café placement covers the second one honestly.
SSP, Reading RG1 5AN (station)
Eight hours at Reading station, which is the easiest commute you will ever have. The advert says applicants "need to be 18 years of age or over to perform certain tasks or work on certain shifts", which is a partial block rather than a full one. Worth applying and letting them decide, but do not count on it.
ibis (Accor), Reading
Best hourly rate of anything in Reading itself on this page, and zero hours means you pick up shifts around college rather than committing. It asks for "some experience in retail, hospitality or a customer facing role", which your Pavilion Café work answers directly. Lead the application with that.
Screwfix, The Western Centre, Bracknell RG12 1RW
Highest hourly rate on the whole page, and the advert says "willing to learn, you don't need retail experience to succeed". No age is stated either way, and trade counters lean older because of the lifting, so treat it as a stretch. It costs one form to find out.
Elior UK, Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames RG9 4HE
Twenty permanent hours, and "catering and barista experience desirable but not essential". Contract catering sites are often inside a school or an office, so ask what the site is before you commit, because a school site means a DBS you cannot get.
ASDA, Shoppenhangers, Maidenhead
A supermarket food counter, permanent part time, on a proper shift pattern. Asda hires at 16 for non-alcohol departments and food services is one of them. Maidenhead is a 12 mile commute for shift work, which only makes sense if the hours are stacked into one or two days.
TK Maxx, Maidenhead
The second of the three TK Maxx sites. Same "no experience? no problem" wording, different manager. Apply even though you applied to Bracknell.
Greene King, Maidenhead
Greene King runs a formal under-18 policy and does take 16-year-olds on the food side. Same caveat as any pub: you can carry food and clear tables, you cannot pour drinks unsupervised, and the shift cannot run past 10pm.
Travelodge, Marlow
Same employer and same no-experience wording as number 11. Marlow has no direct train from Reading and needs a change at Maidenhead, so this is a backup rather than a target.
Eurochange, Reading RG1 2AG
Twenty-four permanent hours in the town centre, which is the best package here on paper. It asks for "at least 1 year of experience in retail sales, cash handling, and customer service" as a requirement, not a preference, and bureaux de change are cash-handling roles that tend to want adults. Listed for completeness.
McMullen & Sons, Camberley
An under-18 pay band again, and twelve hours entirely outside college time. A 6am start in Camberley is not reachable from Reading by public transport, which is the only thing wrong with it. Worth knowing the pattern exists, in case a nearer McMullen pub advertises the same.
TK Maxx, Camberley GU15 3SN
Posted today, 24 hours a week, same no-experience wording. Third of the three TK Maxx sites and the furthest. Apply last of the three.
Travelodge, Camberley
Identical role to the Reading Travelodge on round one, thirteen miles further away. Only useful if Reading and Bracknell both go quiet.
Travelodge, Camberley
The fourth and last Travelodge opening. Same advert, same distance problem as number 26.
Five Guys, Basingstoke
Fast food crew is the classic first job and Five Guys trains from zero, with a rate that rises 40p as you pass stages. Basingstoke is 14 miles and the train fare eats a shift a week. Keep it for the day a Reading branch advertises.
Marston's, Basingstoke
Cleaning rather than bar work, so none of the alcohol restrictions apply, and the advert offers "flexible and part time hours offered to work around your family or higher education". Distance is the whole objection.
Marston's, Basingstoke
Same pub, food side. Listed so the page is complete, not because you should spend an evening on it before the Tier A eleven.
You asked for as many tutoring jobs as a 16-year-old with your GCSEs can get. The honest answer is that there is one advertised employer, and it is a good one. Everything else is either closed to under-18s or is not a job at all. Here is the whole picture rather than a padded list.
Explore Learning, 5 Market Street, Bracknell RG12 1AJ
Explore Learning is the only tuition employer found that states a 16 minimum in writing, and the reason is structural rather than a manager's discretion, so it will not change on you.
"You must be age 16 or over and have the right to work in the UK." — and on the careers page, "Our tutors must be at least 16. This is a requirement of our registration with Ofsted."
Their published bands are £8.40 under 18, £10.90 at 18–20, £12.75 at 21+, so you would step up twice while staying in the same job. Minimum six hours a week over at least two weekdays; shifts start 3:30 or 4pm Tuesday to Friday, or Saturday morning and afternoon. The one gate: they want grade 6 or above in Maths and English Language GCSE. Your Maths 8 clears it comfortably; check your English Language grade before you spend time on the application, because that is the requirement they actually screen on.
Explore Learning, Sainsbury's, Bath Road, Calcot, Reading RG31 7SA
A Reading tutor vacancy exists in their system (job 5074) but currently shows zero openings, which means it was filled or paused rather than that they do not hire here. Email the centre directly rather than waiting for it to reappear: same company, same 16+ policy, same pay bands, four miles from you instead of ten. One short email saying you have finished your GCSEs, your grades, and that you can do the 3:30pm weekday and Saturday shifts.
Explore Learning, Camberley, Staines, High Wycombe, Walton on Thames
Four more live tutor vacancies at reachable-ish centres: Camberley (job 5063), High Wycombe (5064), Staines (5058), Walton on Thames (5072). Camberley is the only one worth the journey, and only if Bracknell and Reading both say no. Swap the job number in the link to see each one.
Kumon (franchised centres), Earley, Caversham, Whitley
Kumon centres take on class assistants at 16 to mark worksheets and sit with students. They are individually owned franchises, so vacancies are almost never advertised anywhere and the route in is a message to the instructor. Class times are 3:30–6:30pm on weekdays and Saturday mornings, which fits college. The pay is the worst on this page, around £7 to £9 an hour for under-18s, so treat it as the thing that puts "tutoring experience" on your CV rather than the thing that pays.
Reading, Earley: Unit 4 Chalfont Court, Chalfont Close RG6 5SY, instructor Damo Baliga, 07532 799598.
Caversham: instructor Abida Sayeed, via kumon.co.uk/caversham.
Reading, Whitley: John Madejski Academy, 330 Northumberland Ave RG2 8DH on Saturdays, Whitley Park Primary RG2 7RB on Tuesdays, via kumon.co.uk/reading-whitley.
Superprof, online listing, self-employed
Superprof accepts tutors from 16, and you write your own hourly rate. It is a directory, not an employer: nobody assigns you students, and a new profile with no reviews sits a long way down the search results. It costs nothing but an hour to write the profile, so it is worth doing on the same evening you apply to Explore Learning, but do not expect it to produce work by itself.
Yourself, Reading
This is where the money actually is at your age, and it is the one route where your grades are the product rather than a box to tick. Science 9-9, Maths 8 and Computer Science 8, sat this month, is a stronger pitch to a Year 10 parent than a university student who took their GCSEs six years ago, because you have just done the current spec.
Practical points: you cannot apply for your own enhanced DBS, only an employer can request one, so private tutoring at 16 is done without one. Parents accept that for a peer tutor as long as sessions are somewhere sensible, which means their kitchen table with a parent in the house, a Reading library study room, or online. Channels that work: your own teachers at The Wren School, who get asked for tutor recommendations constantly; local parent groups on Facebook; Nextdoor; and a card in a newsagent's window. One student at £18/hr for two hours a week is £36, which beats four hours at Kumon.
All checked this morning. These are refusals by policy, not by application.
| Platform or employer | Status | Why |
|---|---|---|
| MyTutor | closed | Tutors must be current university students or graduates |
| Tutorful | closed | 18+ |
| Preply | closed | 18+ |
| TutorExtra UK | closed | "You must be eighteen or over to sign up as a tutor" |
| First Tutors | closed | 18+ |
| Teachitright (Reading 11+) | closed | Qualified teacher status required for tutor roles |
| Explore Learning, online | 17+ | In-centre is 16+, online tutoring is 17+. Revisit next year. |
| Reed "tutor" listings, Reading | closed | 989 results, all QTS, SEN or £25k–£65k career roles |
| Indeed "tutor" listings, Reading | closed | Same: supply teachers, early years practitioners, assessors |
| National Tutoring Programme | closed | Schools commission it; not a route an individual applies through |
So you can judge the list rather than trust it.
The warehouse problem solved itself. Of the 603 listings in range, 14 were warehouse or industrial and every one was full time, so the full-time filter alone removes them before the warehouse filter ever fires. Both filters are in the code now regardless. Of the 97 part-time listings, the biggest single loss was 24 care assistant roles, all 18+ and DBS gated.
Indeed carries what Reed cannot see. Nine searches, roughly 130 adverts read, 22 opened individually and verified. Superdry, Johnsons, H. Samuel, Deichmann, F.Hinds, New Look, Nando's, TK Maxx, Halfords Bracknell, SASSE, Screwfix, ibis, SSP, the Thirsty Bear, Pearls and Elior are all invisible on Reed. Indeed only serves the first page of each search to a script, so the fix is more searches rather than deeper ones.
Three job ids on this run were fabricated by the page reader and thrown out. They followed obvious patterns (cdef0123456789ab, 789abcdef0123456, a1b2c3d4e5f67890). Every Indeed link on this page was opened afterwards and returned the matching employer and title, so none of them are dead.
Four Reading town-centre applications, all no-experience, one evening. Two of them publish under-18 pay bands.
The only tutoring job you can legally apply to. Check your English Language grade first, then apply, then email the Reading centre separately.
Round one's top twelve are still the strongest single list. This page adds to it, it does not replace it.
Superdry, H. Samuel, Deichmann and New Look are all inside the Oracle. Four online forms and one walk-in with a printed CV is a better use of a Saturday than forty more applications.
